History
The textile giant, the wool plant "Todor Tsipovski — Merjan" Teteks began weaving the story of its success and the five decades of tradition on the 25th of May, 1951, by turning on the machines in the wool yarn factory.
Tetovo, the city under the Shar Mountain, rich and full of pastures, is the place where the great legend of Teteks had started.
The ancient picture of the yarn pulling from the wool of the Shar Mountain sheep, along the river Pena and the memories of the ancestors that used to pull the yarn on a spindle, slowly evolved into a picture of the spindles of the first industrial yarn factory, out of which the first strands of yarn came from.
Today, in Teteks, the largest Macedonian textile producer, there are four large factories. The Yarn and Wool Factory (from 2007 it operates as joint venture company between Teteks AD and Norwegian partners), the Fabric and Blanket Factory, out of which the very first yards of raw fabric flowed in 1954, today renowned producer of fashion fabrics and blankets. The idea for Teteks to utilize its fabric was realized in 1963, when the Ready-made clothing factory was open, and the need for knitwear clothing, resulted with the Knitwear Factory’s production lines in 1968. Another integral part of Teteks is the retail network, consisting of 50 stores throughout the country.
In 1991, Teteks was turned from a public plant, into a private stockholders association. Teteks AD is 100% in private ownership today and is quoted on Macedonian Stock Exchange.
As the commerce of the Republic of Macedonia turned toward the market economy, Teteks faced the challenge of its existence and development, transforming and adapting itself to the new market conditions.
